12.6.18 – An excellent week enjoyed by all!

It has been a busy start to the last summer term here at Balby Central! We would like to thank all parents and carers for their support at all the events. Here’s some of the highlights:

5.6.18 – KS1 Sports Day

A fantastic day for all the children involved. They all had the chance to participate in every event at a great venue! Thanks to all the parents that came to support the children and the athletics club.

6.6.18 – Rose Trust Sports Day

Balby Central played host to the first ever Rose Trust Sports Day held again at Doncaster Athletics Club. Thank you to Richmond Hill, Hatchell Wood and Woodfield for attending. There was a very high standard of Athletics on show and most importantly, a very friendly atmosphere amongst all children. Well done to Richmond Hill for winning the Y5/6 competition and our Balby Central Y3/4 team for bringing home the cup!

7.6.18 – Tag Rugby at Wakefield Trinity

Eight Y4 boys took part in their first ever tag rugby tournament and won all three games, playing on the first team pitch! They then had a fantastic opportunity to wave flags before kick off for the professional game! The boys represented school brilliantly live on Sky Sports! Well done!

10.6.18 – Wildcats tournament

Our Y5/6 girls footballers played in a very tough tournament this Sunday against strong Academy sides. Well done to our goal scorer Millie. There is lots still to learn however the girls showed great resilience and determination to continue! The tournament has only been made possible by our new Wildcats programme and close work with Hyde Park Knights FC.

Other news – a big well done to Finley Briggs in Y1 who is making the most of the All Stars cricket programme at Doncaster CC. Looking great in your new kit Finley!

It has been a fantastic two weeks to finish the half term. Here’s an update on what has been going on and on what is to look forward too!

Y6 visit the New York Stadium – Italy U17 took on Belgium U17 in the European championships … and we were there! The 30 children were rewarded not only for their efforts in SATs but in PE throughout the year and for bringing their PE for every lesson. They are great role models for the younger children and thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon.

Cross Country – four Y5/6 boys competed in th Doncaster cross-country event on Saturday morning.  They did brilliantly to finish a tough course in very warm conditions! Congratulations to Alfie Nadkar who came 10th place! Great runnng young man!

Y6 play on the pitch – Eight Y6 children played football on the Keepmoat 1st team pitch yesterday in a competition of 40 teams. The day consisted of fun activities and some very competitive football, with our Y6 team doing very well to reach the last 16, coming second in their group. These eight children have behaved brilliantly throughout the school year and always stand out in a PE or sport environment because of their hard work. Well done to all 8 involved! 8.5.18 – Tour de Yorkshire finish!

Amongst all the excitement of the Tour de Yorkshire finish in Doncaster on Thursday, two Balby Central children, Alathea Rickwood and Riley Cougill, took part in a school 400m time trial cycling race on the Tour de Yorkshire finish line. Racing at number 7 and 8, they both pushed nerves to one side and set great times for the Other 54 children to beat! Alathea came just 3 seconds off third place!

I watched alongside their parents with great pride as they represented the school brilliantly as we knew they would! This was a great opportunity which we hope to provide for hardworking children in years to come! Well done Alathea and Riley, you should be very proud!

Here’s some acton photos and videos!

23.3.18 – Northern Ballet is just one reason to celebrate!

It has been a fantastic week for sport at Balby Central!

15 children were spotted as part of a project we were involved in through Northern Ballet in Leeds. The children shared what they had learnt in the sessions with their families and had a tour of the building. The girls and boys then had a surprise from the professional dancers at the company who performed a piece from Swan Lake. The children did the school proud and showed determination, passion and enthusiasm. Congratulations and thank you for your hard work. You were amazing!

To top of a busy Thursday, our Boys A team brought the cup home, winning their tense final against Woodfield 1-0, with Carlos scoring the winner! Man of the match went to Josh for a solid all round performance! Well done boys! You thoroughly deserved the win and have become fantastic role models for the school!

Pictures and highlights to follow. We hope your children enjoy celebrating Sports Relief today and that you all have a restful Easter holiday!

Mrs Hodgson and Mr Wilson

19.3.18 – Football update and Sport Relief

It has been another busy half term for football fixtures. Our Y3/4 boys football team hosted Crowle and although they conceded early goals, fought back very well in the second half to score 4 goals, with the match ending 4-10 to Crowle. An excellent effort against a strong Crowle team. Meanwhile, our Y5/6 boys A and B teams have been competing in a local football league and as we reach the final week of fixtures, the A team are strongly placed in second with a chance of reaching the final! KS1 were lso very lucky to get a visit from Donny Dog on Thursday morning, who was encouraging children to attend school with a competition to win free Rover tickets!

This week we are taking part in Sport Relief at school, kicking off with a fun assembly this morning. Each afternoon children will be completing fun active challenges as part of their Active1 15 to help promote physical activity. This will end in a celebration on Friday when children are invited to wear their PE kits, favourite sports shirt or dress as a their favourite sporting hero! We would appreciate any donations made on Friday morning (recommended £1) that will go towards Sport Relief 2018!!

Thanks for your continued support on the touchline,

Mr Wilson

9.2.18 A great first Half Term!

Just a quick round up of recent fixtures and results! Our Boys Football First Team lost a close game last night at home to a strong Crowle side, 3-4. There were some solid performances with plenty to work on before the Y5/6 A and B teams play league fixtures next half term. On the playground, The Snedkars won the Y4/5 Netball tournament, beating team Fire in a close final and the Illiminators took the Y6 Football League title. Y3 and y4 kicked of our 2018 inter-house sports competitions on Wednesday afternoons, braving the cold to play hockey. All pupils represented their house and played 3 matches. Currently Team Tornado top the House leaderboard! Well done Y3/4!

Elsewhere, we have had more fun cycle maintenance workshops for Y5 children which they thoroughly enjoyed, learning how to change fix tyres, brakes. and gears. Letters have gone out to invite children to take part in cycling skills sessions and Learn to Ride sessions. Please return letters on the first day back if you are interested. We also had a great display of Mixed Martial Arts from the children taking part in the Wednesday afterschool club with ACMAC, showing off some great patterns. Next half term children can look forward to a KS2 gymnastics competition, more inter-house sports competitions and football and rugby fixtures against other local schools.

Thank you to all children, parents and carers for their continued support and enthusiasm for PE!

Mr Wilson
